How-to 1
Identify the overlay before choosing an action
An overlay is an item you add over the base map. Different types expose different controls. A business record, standalone image, custom text label, group, and shape are not interchangeable, even when two items look similar.
| Overlay type | Typical controls or workflow |
|---|---|
| Business from Search or POIs | Edit style, Change logo, leader line, location reuse, and available duplicate/delete actions. |
| Standalone image or Logos artwork | Container editing, resizing, positioning, and available line/duplicate/delete actions. |
| Text | Content, font, formatting, container, rotation, and available positioning actions. |
| Group | Item collection, title, columns, spacing, width, and Ungroup. |
| Shape | Click to select, edit fill and stroke, use available geometry controls, or delete. |
| Subject property | Property-specific label and image editing; it is not a generic tenant overlay. |
How-to 2
Reveal an overlay toolbar and edit its style
- 1
Find the intended object
Zoom enough to distinguish the item from neighboring overlays. On desktop, hover the item to reveal its toolbar; on a touch device, tap the overlay. Read the available control titles rather than assuming every toolbar has the same buttons.
- 2
Open Edit style
Choose Edit style where available. The editing dialog depends on the item: Text opens text controls, images open container controls, and groups open their collection editor.
- 3
Apply the change
Make the intended edits and use Save Changes. Inspect the object on the map, where the background and neighboring labels may make it look different from the isolated preview.
How-to 3
Move and resize an item in 2D
- 1
Drag the object itself
Drag the overlay into the intended display position. Dragging the map background pans the map instead. On a crowded map, start the drag from the visible body of the item rather than another control.
- 2
Use the resize handle
Drag the available resize handle. Keep logo proportions readable and inspect the resulting text size or container padding for labels. The handle changes the object presentation; it is not the same as zooming the map.
- 3
Recheck location anchors
For an item with a leader line, moving the displayed artwork does not imply that the business itself moved. Check the anchor separately. Only adjust the endpoint when you are correcting where the connector should point.
How-to 4
Duplicate an item and edit the copy
- 1
Use Duplicate on a supported overlay
Reveal the toolbar and click Duplicate when it is offered. This copies that overlay inside the current map, not the whole saved project.
- 2
Move the new copy
Inspect the new item and move it away from the original if they overlap. For a Text copy, open Edit style and replace the wording before leaving it in the composition.
- 3
Check copied information
A duplicated business can still refer to the original branch. Use Search for a different location rather than treating a copied brand image or anchor as a verified second branch.
- 4
Save the intended result
Check that both the original and the copy are needed, remove any accidental duplicates, and save. Repeated clicks can create a cluttered composition even when every individual item is valid.
How-to 5
Delete, hide, or ungroup deliberately
- 1
Delete an unwanted item
Use Delete on the intended overlay. Inspect the map afterward and use Undo promptly if an available overlay-history action reverses a mistake. Deleting an overlay does not delete the entire saved map.
- 2
Hide a category for inspection
Use Layer Visibility to hide an overlay category temporarily. This is useful when diagnosing overlap. It differs from deleting an individual item and does not provide a per-object layer list.
- 3
Ungroup a roster
Use Ungroup when a collection needs separate item placement. Use Delete only when the group overlay is unwanted. Review the released items and their anchors after ungrouping.
How-to 6
Understand container styling
Fill is the backing behind the content. Fill opacity controls its transparency. Border has its own color, width, and opacity. Padding controls the space around the content. These settings affect the container, not the detail already embedded inside an uploaded image.
For a white logo over a light base map, try a darker fill with visible opacity. For a bare logo, use a transparent fill and no border. If a border is missing, check both its width and opacity. If the image has a white rectangle baked into the file, a transparent container cannot remove that rectangle.
How-to 7
Use the corresponding controls in 3D
Click an overlay in 3D to open its selection panel. Use Edit, Move to center, Duplicate, or Delete as available. The camera center supplies the destination for Move to center, so frame the intended position before applying it.
Business selections add name-tag and Change logo controls. Multiple compatible selections can be grouped. Shapes have their own editing behavior. Use the dedicated 3D guide for the full selection workflow rather than assuming the 2D hover-and-drag interaction is identical.
Check your result
The intended item is edited and positioned correctly, with accurate anchors and no accidental duplicates.
Read the quick walkthrough as text
- Reveal the controls. Hover an overlay on desktop or tap it on a touch device. Inspect the available toolbar actions.
- Edit its appearance. Use Edit style and Save Changes for the supported content or container controls.
- Move or copy. Drag and resize in 2D, or use Duplicate when offered and position the copy deliberately.
- Check and save. Review line anchors, group contents, and any duplicate content, then save the map.
